Date: 17th February 2019
Sunday 17th February 2019 at 0830. A level 3 walk of about 16 km taking between 7 and 9 hours, depending on snow conditions.
An Socach is a fine, long ridgewalk starting from Baddoch Farm Road end on the A83. There's not much space for vehicles to park on the verge here so we will meet at the Glenshee Ski area car park first and get into as few vehicles as possible, more details below. Views from the long, broad ridge are into the southern Cairngorms.
Given the time of year this is very likely going to be a winter mountaineering day and you will need to be prepared with crampons, ice axe, head torch and goggles, as well as appropriate clothing and adequate food\water for an extended day in the mountains. See the 'What do I need?' page from the link above for more information. Please also be aware that winter mountaineering requires a higher level of fitness than summer hillwalking. Contact me in advance of the day if you have any questions.
B2 boots, ice axe and crampons can be hired from outdoor shops such as Tiso and Nevisport.
We will meet outside the Cafe at the GlenShee Ski Centre, AB35 5XU at 0830 for a briefing and kit check before transferring into just a couple of vehicles for the five minute drive down to the start of the walk.
Cost is only £35 per person (maximum group size is 6)
Availability: only 5 places remaining
