Date: 1st July 2018
Sunday 1st July 2018, starting at 09:30 am. A 14k walk taking between 5 and 7 hours.
This is a level 2 walk.
Schiehallion is a classic Scottish hillwalk, often climbed by those early on in their hillwalking career. The walk has been improved by the John Muir Trust in recent years who have constructed an excellent path which has meant the original hillwalkers route has now almost regenerated. We will follow the new path high onto the mountainside then pick our way carefully across the boulder field and onto the summit.
We will meet at the Braes of Foss car park, PH16 5NN (Turn west off the B846 between Tummel Bridge and Aberfeldy at Tomphubil, at the top of the hill close to Loch Kinardochy. Head west for about a mile. The car park is on the left. The car park is at grid reference NN 752 557) at 0930 for a briefing and kit check.
This is a chance to get out into the hills, to see and feel why it is such a joy to be outdoors in the Scottish wilderness. You'll meet like minded people, spend some time understanding the basics, including, what to wear, what to carry, how to walk on uneven terrain. There will also be a chance to see how a map and compass work. Then enjoy a few hours walking up Schiehallion.
You should dress for a day in the hills, with stout footwear, wind/waterproof clothing, including a hat and gloves. Bring adequate food & water for 6 hours walking.
On conclusion of the walk we will retire to the Schiehallion Bar, opposite the Coop in Aberfeldy for a refreshment and a blether.
