Date: 20th July 2019
Saturday 20th July 2019 at 0830. A Level 3 walk with some Grade 1 scrambling, a distance of 17k, taking between 8 and 10 hours to complete. A classic ascent of the Ben.
The highest mountain in the UK deserves everyone to have a go at ascending it at least once and for the hillwalker, this is one of the better routes.
We start on good tracks before beginning the ascent of Carn Beag Dearg across a short section of boggy ground. It's a steady climb up onto Carn Mor Dearg from here and weather permitting, the views are stunning, both of Loch Linnhe behind and the North Face of Ben Nevis ahead. It can take a good three hours to reach the summit of Carn Mor Dearg and lunch is often taken on this magnificent viewpoint.
The arete itself is fairly wide and there are relatively few sections where hands may be needed to pass large boulders or other rock features. Before you know it, you'll be heading up the boulder field and popping out onto the summit of the UK's highest.
This is a fantastic day, highly recommended.
We will meet at 0830 in front of the Glen Nevis Visitor Centre, Glen Nevis, PH33 6PF before driving round to our start point at Torlundy.
Cost is only £35 per person (maximum group size is 8)
