Date: 15th June 2019
Saturday 15th June 2019 starting at 9am
This is a level 3 walk of just under 30 km, high on the plateau above the Cairnwell Pass, taking in the six munros of Carn an Tuirc, Cairn of Claise, Tolmount, Tom Buidhe, Glas Maol and Creag Leacach. We will also take in the beautiful view of Coire Loch Kander from the plateau, a minor detour.
One for the Munro baggers looking to maximise a day in the hills. This will be a fairly fast and light (walking, not running) expedition focusing on completing the distance rather than stopping often for the views. You will need to be fit and able to sustain a reasonable pace of about 4 km\hour, not one for the first time hillwalker, if in doubt, contact me before booking for a chat.
The Glas Maol circuit is a fairly straight forward, if long, day with it's high start point near the Glenshee Ski Centre. The plateau is reasonably flat and featureless meaning good progress can be made between the Munro summits. It can be boggy, especially out by Tolmount and Tom Buidhe and navigation can be challenging in poor visibility.
We will meet at the car park in front of the Glenshee Ski Centre at Cairnwell for a 9am start. The cafe is usually open from 0830 serving breakfast rolls and coffee if you want to get there early and take on fuel. Be prepared for potentially 10 - 11 hours on the hill.
Previous clients have spent the night in nearby Braemar either before or after the event with its plentiful B&B's and Hotel. The Youth Hostel at https://www.hostellingscotland.org.uk/hostels/braemar/ will give you 10% off your booking if you use my code King-19
Cost is only £35 per person (maximum group size is 10)
