In 1967 the Earl of Crawford and Balcarres, Premier Earl of Scotland, stated that he thought Kincraig was by far the most beautiful natural feature in this part of Scotland.
Such a commendation is almost certain to be agreed with by anyone who has visited the area, especially those who have enjoyed the excellent panoramas to be had from the summit of Kincraig Hill, or have scrambled along the popular Chain Walk at the foot of the cliffs.
For many people, Kincraig, which includes Shell Bay, has become a valuable place of retreat and it is no surprise that it has become a very popular attraction for walkers undertaking the Fife Coastal Path.
The area boasts a wide range of natural beauty, ranging from its geology, its sandy beaches and dunes, its grasslands and streams, to its rich abundance of wildlife. There is also a very interesting human history which includes a considerable amount of military activity. All of this demands to be recounted.
