Date: 11th May 2019
Saturday 11th May 2019 a trail run across the Tarmachan Ridge with Allan Harley.
So who wants to push their trail and hill running to a new level? Literally and figuratively!
Meall Nan Tarmachan is a Munro, and forms part of the Tarmachan, or Ptarmagin Ridge. This is a lovely ridge of about 2km in length, parts of which have some decent exposure, and may require a wee bit of scrambling.
The route begins with a steep climb to a knoll at 923 metres, high enough for Munro status if it was on its own, but small compared to where we're going!
A wee descent prepares the legs for the next climb to Meall Nan Tarmachan at 1044 metres, and a lovely view of the Lawers range.
From here we head along the ridge, never dropping below the magical 3000 feet, over Meall Garbh, at 1000m in height, and Beinn nan Eachan, also about 1000m.
We'll drop down a remote Glen to pick up a land rover track back to the car park, before returning to the carpark and then back down to our meeting point in Killin.
This run is about 12km, but if weather and pace is good, then we may extend.
Although this will be an easy paced run, there is a substantial and steep climb to begin, so you’ll need a good level of fitness.
You’ll also need good trail running shoes and a rucksack or running vest to carry full body waterproofs, food and water. Bring a compass if you have one. We'll supply the map.
The run will be led by Allan, an experienced hill, trail and ultra runner, triathlete and Gym Instructor. You’ll receive tips about technique, navigation and nutrition.
We will meet in the McLaren Hall car park, Main Street, Killin, FK21 8UW at 09:00 before driving the last few miles together to the NTS car park which is off the A827 near Mornish on the Glen Lyon road. The car park has an elevation of about 430m which gives a high starting point for the run.
We will finish our day in the Killin Hotel for a light refreshment and a blether. Further runs and training sessions can be discussed on an individual or group basis.
